Our Story
Tea has always been more than a drink. It is ritual, culture and connection.
Our brand was created to bring together Eastern herbal wisdom and British tea tradition — two worlds connected through the journey of tea.
Chapter I introduces four blends, each inspired by a defining moment in the history of tea as it travelled from China to Britain.
Each tea is crafted for modern life, while carrying a story rooted in centuries of cultural exchange.
Our Philosophy
We believe tea can be:
-
🌿
A daily wellness ritual -
🎭
A cultural experience -
📜
A form of storytelling
Each blend we create holds three elements:
Function · Heritage · Ritual
This philosophy guides everything we create — now and in the future.
MEET THE FOUNDERS
Dr. Liu & Miss Shirley
Herbal Consultant & Co-founder
Based in London, Dr. Liu draws on her background in Chinese medicine to bring herbal wisdom into British tea culture, creating botanical infusions centred on ritual, balance, and sensory experience, with Chapter I exploring four blends inspired by rest, resilience, warmth, and clarity.
Co-Founder Shirley adds: “I have long been passionate about health and balance in everyday life. Through my journey with Traditional Chinese Medicine, I realised wellness is about naturally integrating self-care into daily living. This inspired me to bring Chinese dietary wellness into the UK in a simpler, more modern way — through tea, as a moment of comfort, ritual, and everyday balance.”
The Rose Ritual 🌹
At the heart of our design is the rose — the national flower of Britain and a symbol of elegance and refined living.
Each tea bag is shaped into a blooming rose, unfolding gently in hot water and transforming tea into a sensory experience.
This design reflects the culture of British tea drinking, where tea is deeply connected to social life, hospitality and aesthetic expression.
The rose is our first expression of tea as ritual —
with future expressions yet to unfold.
The rose defines our tea — a signature of elegance, ritual and timeless British culture.
Heritage
Chapter I — The Journey of Tea
Tea did not arrive in Britain by chance. It travelled across oceans, through trade, curiosity and cultural exchange — carrying with it not only flavor, but knowledge, ritual and meaning.
Chapter I of our collection is inspired by four defining moments in this journey — where Chinese tea first moved beyond its origins and became part of British life.
Catherine of Braganza
In 1662, Catherine of Braganza brought tea into the British royal court. What was once a medicinal curiosity became a symbol of elegance and refinement. Tea drinking spread through aristocratic society, evolving into a social ritual — one that would later define British culture.
This was where tea became ritual.
Michał Piotr Boym
In 1656, Michał Piotr Boym published Flora Sinensis — one of the first European works to document the natural knowledge of China. Through his work, the botanical world of the East was introduced to the West. Plants were no longer distant curiosities, but sources of understanding, healing and connection.
This was where knowledge began to travel with tea.
The Thirteen Hongs of Canton
In the Qing dynasty, Guangzhou stood as the gateway between China and the world. Through the Thirteen Hongs, tea flowed outward along the Maritime Tea Route — connecting continents through trade. Wuyi tea, green tea and other prized leaves travelled across oceans, establishing China as the heart of global tea culture.
This was where tea began its journey beyond borders.
The East India Company
As tea reached Europe, the British East India Company reshaped its destiny. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, it transformed tea from a rare import into a daily ritual. From green tea to black tea, and eventually to tea cultivation in Assam, this era redefined how the world would grow, drink and understand tea.
This was where tea became part of everyday life.
These moments are not separate histories — they are chapters of a single journey.
From trade to ritual, from knowledge to daily life, tea has continuously evolved across cultures and time. Chapter I is our interpretation of this journey — expressed through four blends, each carrying a story, a purpose and a ritual.
This is only the beginning of a story still unfolding.
Our Interpretation
We do not recreate tradition. We build upon it.
Chapter I is our foundation — an introduction to how tea can connect cultures, support wellbeing and be experienced through design. It is the beginning of a broader exploration.
What's Next
Beyond Chapter I
Tea has travelled for centuries, and its story is far from complete. Future chapters will continue to explore new botanicals, new cultural connections and new ways of experiencing tea.
